Latest Release of hIOmon Also Extends Export Files
to Support MXG® Software from Merrill Consultants

BOULDER, Colorado January 27, 2005 — hyperI/O LLC, the file I/O performance monitoring expert, announced today that its industry-leading hIOmon™ File I/O Performance Monitor now provides the option of saving the real-time file I/O operation performance metrics uniquely collected by hIOmon™ directly to disk files for spreadsheet analysis and customized reporting.  The company also announced that its latest release of hIOmon™ additionally extends this new 'Direct Export File' feature to include support for the MXG® Software from Merrill Consultants.

"Simple spreadsheets still remain a common means for analyzing a variety of performance data," said Tom West, President of hyperI/O LLC.  "With Version 3.3, hIOmon™ users can now efficiently collect both detailed and summarized disk I/O performance metrics moreover, at the process/application level upon an individual, specific file basis for easy import into their spreadsheets, databases, and other applications programs."

The new hIOmon™ 'Direct Export File' feature enables users to save the real-time file I/O operation performance metrics directly to an export file in a simple 'Comma-Separated-Values (CSV)' file format.  In addition, users can optionally specify the particular types of performance metrics that are to be included within the export file; this option allows users to restrict the contents of the export file to only their particular metrics of interest.  The export files created by hIOmon™ can be used by spreadsheet programs (such as Microsoft® Excel), databases and other applications, thus enabling users to easily perform their own specific analysis upon the collected file I/O operation performance metrics and also generate customized charts and reports.

The hIOmon™ Version 3.3 also supports a 'Direct Export File' that can be processed by the MXG® Software (Version 22.13 and above) from Merrill Consultants (www.MXG.com); this support enables the hIOmon™ summarized file I/O operation performance metrics to be easily incorporated into enterprise-level capacity planning and performance analysis practices.

hIOmon™ Benefits

hIOmon™ is a software package that provides a variety of significant benefits, including the ability to better diagnose and understand storage access performance problems, to verify and ensure that required levels of performance (Quality-of-Service) are being met at the specific file/process level, to evaluate emerging storage technologies (e.g., iSCSI, SATA, etc.) and proposed improvements to the performance of computer systems, and to help reduce storage management costs.  Especially with its included support for Windows® Management Instrumentation (WMI), end-users, integrators and Independent Software Vendors alike find it easy to tap into the hIOmon™ agent.  ‘Out-of-the-box’ features also include a Java™-based GUI, an Internet Explorer GUI in addition to CLI support, alert capabilities with System Event Log support, both detailed and summary metrics upon an individual file basis together with both real-time and replay display modes, along with support for both the Windows® Performance and System Monitors and several CSV-file export capabilities.

Users/applications armed with the extensive set of file I/O performance metrics that only hIOmon™ provides can validate and continually verify that those steps taken to maximize disk storage utilization are indeed of benefit.  Such steps include identifying ‘hot files’ and moving files around the storage hierarchy, SAN, NAS, etc. to improve performance by making the best use of newly purchased hardware or without spending IT dollars on new hardware.  Use hIOmon™ to help identify those files best suited for SSD, RAM disk and other higher performance disk solutions.  Substantiate the benefits in terms of actual performance metrics specific to key files and the associated applications.  With its many features and capabilities (along with an extremely efficient architecture), hIOmon™ answers the question:  “How fast are your files?”™ in terms of a variety of metrics, including response time, I/O count, I/O rate, data transfer rate, queue depth and idle time, random/sequential access detection plus real-time, metric-based file/process list sorts and more.

hIOmon™ Availability and Pricing
